Thankyou for all your lovely comments, notes, messages, and support over the last ... gosh, well, the last journal I wrote here was almost three years ago! :faint:

I do still exist, and still photograph, and am still online.  The plan is to start posting here again!

Life = gap year, currently.  I'm going to Mongolia and saving like a crazy thing and applying to universities.  :fear:

So how are all of you??

(Oh, and this might be slightly sacrilegious, but I have a flickr account here if anyone would like to come and say hello!)

  • Listening to: the sound of silence
  • Reading: between the eyes, essays on photography & poli
  • Watching: hugh laurie
  • Drinking: lovely tea
Uhmm, yes, a little late.

Have been busy with crappy college work and stuff, since it's the end of term soon. :fear:

I have an exhibition on Wednesday which is quite exciting!  I've taken photos for it.  I might post them.  :giggle:

Anyway, the contest.  There were some amazing entries, and I really wanted to let everyone win and it was sooo hard to choose, but I finally decided on this one.… by Hollows.

Because it confuses me alot.

So thankyou again EVERYONE for entering, and taking time out of your busy lives to enter!  :aww:

I'd love to post every single one of the entries here but I can't really, because my subscription has disappeared and I'm quite anti buying one right now since I don't spend enough time here.  Although I probably would if I had one.    Vicious circle.

Tell me something interesting that's happened to you in the last month.

That is all. :blowkiss:
So send in your entries!

I've been away.  Will update avatar list but don't have subscription right now.

I am alive, though, incase you were wondering.  :giggle:

Avatar Contest+WIN A PRINT!

Sat Apr 15, 2006, 5:24 AM

Some of you might remember I had a poll thingy about this awhile ago, but I kind of forgot about it.  Okay, so here's the idea.  :giggle: I'm so bored of my current avatar, but I really am so bad at making them.    mmmmm

SO, I want YOU to make me one!  :eyes:

Some rules, because they control the fun:

:bulletred:  Avatar has to be 50x50 and useable on dA so under 15kb (I think..)

:bulletred:  You can use something from my gallery, I'd prefer you to,  but it's not a rule so if you want to use something else in it, do!

:bulletred:  You can enter more than once if you want.

:bulletred:  It doesn't have to be animated, but it can be.  I really like animated ones so it might be nice if it was in some way.

Okay.  So, to enter, post it in your gallery (or scraps) and link me with the address.    I'll pick the winner, and they will get:

:star:An 8x10" or similar sized print of their choice from my gallery!:star:

I would give more prizes but I can't afford it.  :P  Closing date is the 15th May, so it's a month away!

I hope people enter.  :giggle:

Music Quiz For You

Sun Apr 2, 2006, 4:46 PM

Okay, stole this from Bellaxtrixxi, and changed it a little bit to make it easier for me!  :excited:

1. List the 1st line from the first 20 songs on your playlist that play at random:

1.  When I see you lay down, under pink laquered skies; baby, I'll give you something that'll shut your eyes to this mess.
2.  Teenage dreams, so hard to beat, everytime she walks down the street.
3.  I would never bother you, I would never promise to, I will never follow you, I will never bother you.
4.  These are my tits, yeah, and this is my ass, and these are my legs, watch them walk fucking away.
5.  There's still a little bit of your taste in my mouth, there's still a little bit of you laced with my doubt.
6.  Are you still mad I kicked you out of bed, are you still mad I gave you ultimatums?
7.  Hey.  Father Lucifer, you never looked so sane, you always did prefer the drizzle to the rain.
8.  Tell him I'm driving, it's alright, turning on this wheel, turning on headlights.
9.  Fuck is womens money, we pay with our bodies, there's no purity in our love, no beauty.
10.  I am an antichrist, I am an anarchist, don't know what I want but I know how to get it.
11.  Godamn your righteous hand, I eat innocent meat, the housewife I will beat, the prolife I will kill, what you won't do I will.
12.  Fell in love with a boy, I fell in love once and almost completely.
13.  And I remember the breath of my father, his kisses were bitter and damp.
14.  Kiss me, out of the bearded barley, nightly, beside the green, green, grass.
15.  A fire burns, water comes, you cool me down, when I'm cold inside.
16.  All simple monkeys with alien babies, amphetamines for boys, crucifixes for ladies.
17.  The devils driving my car, and he's drunk; he's pissed, he's mad, I don't care which of you he fucks up.
18.  I wanna bathe in milk, eat grapes, Robert DeNiro, sit on my face; I can't sleep for thinking, send my head a reeling.
19.  I like your pants around your feet, I like the dirt that's on your knees, I like the way you still say please, while you're looking up at me.
20.  I hurt myself today, to see if I still feel, I focus on the pain, the only thing that's real.

Now guess.  No cheating, no google, just guess!  :giggle:  Something funny I noticed.  Alot of those lyrics are ever so slightly perverted.  :faint:  I think there's something wrong with my musical tastes! :lmao:

Oh, and I have 40k!  :aww:  That's really nice.

Hair update+Vote for me!!

Fri Mar 31, 2006, 10:05 AM

Okay, first things first, my hair.  :giggle:

It's red, but not as red as it said it would be on the packet.  :shakefist:  I think it's because it said if you've got long/thick hair (my hair is both long and thick) use two packs.  And I only used one.  So I'm gonna re-dye it, but not yet.  I'll take pictures over the weekend.

I've got a very exciting shoot planned for the weekend with AshAreBetter because he's cool and has a top hat.  That's all I'm saying. I'll take film and digital though so you'll all get to see!

Go on, you know you want to!  :flirty:  hehe
Edit:  Dunno why that link is funny, but it works so click it anyway!

Also, my amazing Secret Pal triumphed again with my final package!  I'll post pictures here tomorrow, but silk yarn and chocolates and a funny book and :faint:, yes!  Thanks sweety if you're reading this, I'll e-mail you over the weekend!!

I'm dyeing my hair bright red right now.  It's itching a bit.  :o

I've never really used anything except henna and a few wash in/wash out dyes, so I'm really scared!  And it STINKS!

:fear:  I have to wash it off in 15 minutes...My family think it will be a disaster.  I'm sure they'll be right!  :faint:

I need help, who's good at coding?

Mon Feb 27, 2006, 5:20 PM

Ok, I am going mad. :faint:

Trying to make a blog with blogger thingy.

And coding it myself.  Very, very bad idea.  :|

I've already removed the nav bar thingy by accident, screwed up the comments coding (it looks fine until someone leaves a comment, and then it goes weird and out of alignment)

I really have no idea about coding, so I was just winging it using different tutorials and such.

Can any of you help? :please:

Here's the blog:

  • Reading: The Da Vinci Code (amazing!!)

I think it's important to know that:

The burn scar on my hip has pretty much gone after about two years, even thought the doctors/nurses/etc said it would be there forever.  :aww:  I'm quite sad, I like it.  It was all white and squishy.

Image hosting by Photobucket

And there is a cut on my left toe which is the same size as the mole thingy below it.

Apart from that, I hate my camera, it never works.  My film camera is fine, but I hate that you can't see what you've taken with film until you develope it.  I'm too impatient.

Also, look at this pretty scarf someone made for me!

Modeled by Dora.  The dummy, of course.

Oh, and does anyone know why photobucket eats pictures AND has weird coding that means the text below your photos turns into a link?

Other than that, my toes still hurt, I'm cold, I don't want to go to college later and have an assesment, and I did all my work at the last minute.

Oh, and I'm smiley!  :D
And I'm going back to where I used to live this weekend to see people who aren't on dA, and then maybe LunarRose and maybe SwallowTheLies will come and stay.  :please:  :evillaugh:

Sun Jan 29, 2006, 6:28 AM

I was wondering how it would be to live without it. :giggle:

I have so much work to do, I've been putting it off forever.

New deviation up, I'm not too sure about it.

Dress by silxy

Not that it matters.  I think it's basically, it's like my old works, in the sort of, darkness etc.  But, then again, it's also worse.  I have more from that series, but I can't seem to edit them, any ideas? Or volunteers? lol  The others are taken in a mirror with a corset, etc. Blah blah blah.

I'm not in the best of moods, but I'm not going to go into it.  :P

Update+Lazy me.

Sun Jan 22, 2006, 9:57 AM
So how is everyone?

I'm back from my trip to London and then Centre Parcs.  Got photos but I haven't got them developed yet.
It was lots of fun, went to Camden, ate veggie lasagne and pakoras a temple off oxford street and had loads of adventures with CrystalCobra.  Also, her mum gave me some kombucha (spelling...) bacteria/mould stuff to make drinks with!!  :boogie:  It's still in the fridge though, I haven't had time. :blushes:

I saw Brokeback Mountain today, has anyone else seen it?  I thought it was really good, very believeable and not at all forced or staged like I expected it to be.  I didn't like the ending though. :(

Oh, in London on the tube, I was recognised by a guy who said he knew my work!  :faint: Was very bizarre...The convosation went something like this:

Me:  *sits on tube, knitting*
Guy: *reads book and pretends not to look at me*
Me: *smiles*
Guy:  "Hi!"
Me:  "Uhmm, Hello..."
Guy: "This is going to sound really weird, but are you Silxy from dA?"
Me:  "Yes.........?!"
Guy:  "Wow, thought so!  I love your photography!!"
Me:  "Uhmm....thanks."
Guy:  "You're welcome, this is my stop.  Keep it up, bye!"

:giggle:  My first fan/stalker.

I've suddenly become addicted to all things vintage/polka-dotted.  It's odd.

Oh, I'm knitting Candy (cardigan) in Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk, bestest softest yarn EVER! And like, £2 a ball on Ebay!

I've got a secret pal!  She's so lovely, she sent me a card with prairie dogs, so adorable!    If you're reading this hon, thankyou so much!!!!

Right, I'm gonna go collapse on the sofa.  If I can get my dad to put my mirror on my wall I have a photoshoot to do tomorrow!  :aww:  My camera has been messing up lately, it's very annoying.

It's funny...+v. important question

Mon Jan 9, 2006, 2:55 AM
since August, I have sold exactly one print a month. :giggle:  Soon, I should have enough DeviantDollars to buy some prints off my own wishlist!  :excited:

Anyone had any experience of the quality of the prints?  Are they good?

I still wanna do print swaps with people, anyone still up for that?  I know saciii was interested, but I kinda forgot about it.

Sorry about the boring last journal entry, it's for my secret pal, very exciting. :giggle:

I'm still sick, last night I woke up and had to sit up in bed for hours because lying down hurt too much.    But I'm feeling much better today, which is nice.  :aww:

Like I've probably said before, I'm getting sick of Photoshop, and too lazy to edit anything...This week I'm going to London with CrystalCobra though, so hopefully I'll get lots of lovely pictures.  I've been trying to be brave enough to ask strangers if they'd mind having their photo taken. :fear:

Ok, here's a question:  If you were stopped in the street by a photographer asking if you'd mind your photo being taken, what would you like to hear?  Like, what wouldn't sound weird/odd so that you'd say no or run away?    :giggle:

Or, if you're a photographer, what do you say to people?
You all better answer.  :shakefist:
That is all.

SP7 Questionnaire

Sun Jan 8, 2006, 3:32 AM
I'm ill!    It's very sad...

The below things is for my secret pal, whevever they might be!! :aww:

1. Are you a yarn snob (do you prefer higher quality and/or natural fibers)? Do you avoid Red Heart and Lion Brand?
I didn't used to be...But yeah, lately I've been avoiding and hating any fibres that aren't natural (or at least SEMI natural. :giggle:) But as for brands, I really don't care.  But I LOVE handpainted, and collinette. ;)

2. Do you spin? Crochet?
I can't crochet, but I do spin.  I have a spinning wheel and such.

3. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?
I don't have anything!  Right now they're all over the living room floor, but I try to keep them in a plastic bag.

4. How long have you been knitting? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?
I've only just recently (like in the last couple of months) taken up knitting again.  I kinda stopped doing it for a couple of years, I don't know why...(I blame teenagehood. :|) But yeah, I guess intermediate.  I can make most stuff, lacey things, jumpers (sweaters), etc.

5. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
Uhmm, I've got a prints wishlist on this website.  But I don't have any other wishlist...

6. What's your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.)
I love anything with patchouli, and all the other scents in Lush's Karma Collection.  :faint: Also, jasmine, and anything deep and earthy.  I'm not crazy about sweet/floral scents.

7. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?
I love Parma Violets. :omg: And, really dark chocolate.

8. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do?
Uhmm, I don't know, pretty much anything I guess...I love making clothes and ripping up old clothes to make new ones, but I haven't done that in awhile.  I love altered books, although I haven't done that much on those...Oh, I'm doing silversmithing at college, so I guess I like doing that.  =P

9. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
I think I need to expand my musical tastes...  I don't know, I like alot of stuff, pretty much anything really.  Favourite bands/singers right now are Bjork, PJ Harvey, Hole, Manson, Joss Stone, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Vaselines.  But, I'd be open to anything!!  :excited:  Oh, and yes, I can play MP3s.

10. What's your favorite color? Or--do you have a color family/season/palette you prefer? Any colors you just can't stand?
I'm trying to get out of the phase of black, so anything bright (but not neon), or deep, or rich.  I don't know, I love all colours. Especially berry colours though, like purples and reds and stuff.  But, yes, anything. :o

11. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
Not quite sure what this question means... :/ I live with my family (mum, dad and younger brother), and I don't have any pets..

12. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?
Yes!  Well, not really ponchos...But all the others...I really want a tam type hat, I think I'm gonna have to try and knit one.

13. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with?
I love Rowan, (lol expensive), Colinette, Noro, R2, handspun, handpainted, uhmm, Debbie Bliss.  And anything else.

14. What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
I don't really not like any fibers, but not too crazy about polyester/nylon types.

15. What is/are your current knitting obsession/s?
Uhmm, cardigans!!!  I think I need about a hundred of them. lol What else, anything edgy, like, the stuff in Rowan's R2 magazine!!  :faint:

16. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?
Anything in big wool, I'm kind of impatent. Although I love mohair, so I think I need to learn to knit with smaller wool anyway.  I like things that aren't just, straight stockinette like scarves, cos I get a little bored.

17. What are you knitting right now?
A modified Ubernatural (cardigan) from Glampyre in Debbie Bliss Superchunky Cashmerino, and a long stripey black and grey scarf with skull illusions at each end!  I think thats all...

18. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?
     Yes!! :aww:

19. Do you prefer straight or circular needles?
Straight and double pointed.  I find circulars really odd to use...

20. Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?
Bamboo are my favourites.  I wanna see what casein (is that right) ones are like though.  Hmm...

21. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?
    What's a swift? :o  I don't own either I don't think, I use my hands to make centrepull balls.

22. How did you learn to knit?
My mum taught me ages ago, and then I re-taught myself via Stitch and Bitch.

23. How old is your oldest UFO?
A couple of months.  But I tend to frog things if I haven't done anything on them for awhile, and make something new...

24. What is your favorite animated character or a favorite animal/bird?
I love those cute little commercial gothic characters.  I don't really have a favourite animal.  I have pink pig hair clips though.

25. What is your favorite holiday?
My favourite holiday? Uhmm, I don't know.  We don't go on holiday much.  The last time was spain about three years ago.  That was pretty amazing, a tiny village and little beach. Yeah, I don't know.  We're going to Centre Parcs next week...

26. Is there anything that you collect?
Buttons!!  hehe Uhmm, earrings, RINGS, anything tacky/plasticky...I have a new found love of all things kitcsh right now.    And yarn of course.

27. What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?
None right now, I think my mum might have subscribed to Interweave without me knowing.  I'm not sure.

28. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on?
Any Rowan books, uhmm, like I said before, any edgy, strange patterns.  And any yarn too. :giggle:

29. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn?
I would love to learn how to adapt and change patterns properly.  (I should probably read how to do it in SNBN..)

30. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?
I knitted one pair of socks, it took me forever, because of the teeny needles and yarn.  My foot measurements...I'm a UK size 7, which is like, medium I think...

31. When is your birthday? (mm/dd)
     18th November, 1988.

Wow, I reached the end...Took awhile!  :faint:

Sorry to all the people who will get bored by this, you can just ignore it.

A little update+New lens+Piccys!!

Thu Jan 5, 2006, 2:32 AM

Ok, well first and most importantly, I used some of my hard earned (ahem) cash to buy a new lens for my film work!  And it came this morning, I'm so excited, can't wait to start shooting with it!
It is this:

Ok, what else?  Yesterday I went to a big city and bought yarn and a new PJ Harvey CD, and a POLKA DOT top!  Wow. :faint:

I got a Zen Micro for Christmas.  I knitted it a sock.

And, also, it snowed lots, and the river by our house snowed over!  :omg:  It was strange and spooky, with those circles:
